FIFA.com

The qualifying draw for the next World Cup (South Africa) will happen in November of this year.

To review, Africa has 53 teams competing for 5 slots
Asia has 43 teams competing for 4.5 slots (notable is that Australia will be part of Asia now, and Laos/Philipenes/Brunei aren't competing)
Europe, 52 for 13
CONCACAF has 35 going for 3.5 playoff v South America
Oceania, 11 for .5 playing against Asia
South America, 10 for 4.5

The draw is this week even though several continents have already started.

England winds up in a fairly tough group, again with Croatia and to face Ukraine. Probably not a group of death, I don't actually see one for UEFA in this qualifier. Notable is that Israel has its best chance ever for making it to the Finals with really only Greece as competition.

The Asia draw does have a tough group though, with Group One having Australia, Iraq, Qatar and China. Group 5 is alson intriguing in that it gives an Arab team a very strong chance of moving onward, plus it puts Kuwait v Iran which has some political history.

The US will face the winner of Dominica and Barbados. If the top teams advance they will be in a group with Guatemala, Trinidad&Tobago and Cuba. Group Two in CONCACAF looks viscious with Mexico, Jamaica, Honduras and Canada together.

I like most of these groupings, but I'm obviously none too thrilled about England's group. It's a chance for them to get after Croatia and make up for the loss, sure, but if they knocked England out once, whose to say they won't do it again? Tough draw for England, though I'm still hopeful they'll advance past the group stages with relative ease.
