Default CONCACAF Gold Cup

Anyone watch this tournament? Missed much of it, though did see the semi-finals and finals. What a final between the U.S. and Mexico. Mexico, I think, outplayed the U.S. in the first half (and thus led 1-0 at halftime), but the U.S. scored twice in the 2nd half and hung on to win a true thriller, 2-1!

Fabulous goal, too, by Benny Feilhaber to win the match.

Hey there CaliEd. Long time.

Just got highlights of the early rounds, which wasn't strong competition. I'm wondering if you would agree with me that part of the reason the USA struggles against SouthAmerican and European clubs is because the only strong competitor they see regularly is Mexico?

Would the US and Mexico fair better if the both N and S America were in one huge conference combining Conmebol and CONCACAF?

Grant the Conference of the Americas 8.5 slots with the 9th best facing Oceania (particularly now that Australia has left that federatoin) and then granting the 5th Asia qualifier an automatic rather than play-in?

A few weeks ago I launched my own blog about Seattle Sounders FC and Life in Puget Sound. I won't be by these parts often as my focus has changed. Sorry about the unannounced retirement.
