Red face Brunell Working on New Deal?

Quote:
Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell said yesterday his agents are negotiating a reworked contract with the team and that he anticipates a resolution to the talks in a few weeks.

Brunell, reached on his cellphone, said he has not given up hope of starting for another team but would only want to be a backup in Washington.

Coach Joe Gibbs said he wants to retain Brunell, and the sides are trying to strike a deal that would reduce the amount of Brunell's salary that will be counted against the salary cap.

I am o.k with him coming back as a backup, and I have high hopes for Jason Campbell. Brunell would be one of the most solid backups in the league, but please let not overpay!!!

The Redskins and Mark Brunell have agreed on a new contract.

The four-year deal is for effectively one year and reduces Brunell's '07 cap hit to less than half the $7 million it would've been. He gets a $820,000 salary this season and no signing bonus. Brunell is coming off shoulder surgery but the 'Skins value his leadership in a backup role.

I am not that big of a fan of Brunell and thought it was funny how the media got on Brunell’s bandwagon early this season and hopped off the next game. Well, the Skins were 2-5 with Campbell starting; not that good. I also think Brunell is just a good back-up and a less than average starter. Nothing more; nothing less.
