First of all, the Nationals are supposed to be talking with the Mets about a deal that would bring Lastings Milledge to DC for John Patterson.

A brief take on these trades:
Lastings for Patterson: I'd stick with Lastings. I wouldn't even think about this one. It's just not worth losing an excellent five-tool propsect for an on-again, off-again and often-injured arm. The Nationals are in bad shape, though, to get Milledge because they just don't have much to trade. I can see the Yankees being a good home for Nick Johnson. I would do a take-back and grab Philip Hughes. It's a very fair trade that happens to work out well for the Nationals given their timeframe. Wily Mo for Cordero, of course I'm biased as a Sox fan. I'm a believer in Wily Mo and I think he'd provide a bat that the Nationals definitely need. But given the very few good free agent relievers on the market, a smarter strategy would be to hold onto Cordero and sign someone like Trot Nixon. - Kevin

And who would pitch for the Nats?
If Boston wants the Cordero deal, I'd think they would need to consider doing something like Cordero, Guzman, Church, and Everts for Pena, Hansen, Lester, and Michael Bowden. |
