Exclamation Travis Lee invited to spring training

Rotoworld.com

Nationals signed first baseman Travis Lee to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

The best he could do? As a fellow left-handed hitter, Lee shouldn't have any role on the Nationals if Nick Johnson is healthy. He'd be a better choice than Robert Fick or Larry Broadway to start at first base if Johnson begins the season on the DL. Maybe he'll have a little fantasy value during April.

Nationals signed infielder D'Angelo Jimenez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Jimenez likely has less chance than Tony Womack of winning a bench spot, but he would be the better choice, especially on a team as OBP deprived as the Nationals. In order to win a job, he'll have to show more on defense than he did with the A's at the end of last year.

Read today that one of the reasons why the Nats signed Lee was because Broadway wasn't doing too well in winter ball.

I'd much rather see Jimenez make the club than Womack.

I wonder if the Nats can gt Ray Olmedo.

Apparently not -- Toronto claimed Olmedo.

Lee is a god pickup. He's a very good defensive 1B.
