Default More HD for the Nats in '09

From this article on the Examiner Web site today, Jim Williams talking to Chris Glass, executive producer at MASN:

Quote:
Examiner » The most asked question that I get has to do with getting more Orioles and Nationals games in High Definition. Will we get more next season?
Glass » The short answer in yes. I can tell you that we are ready right now to do all the Nationals and Orioles games both home and away in HD. We use the same HD remote trucks for our MASN-HD games that ESPN uses for Sunday Night Baseball — so there is no cutting corners. The key is getting a dedicated MASN-HD channel, with a backup for the over flow games. We are working hard with our cable partners to get that for next year. Right now I can say that we will have more games next year in HD.
As we all know, with MASN, most of what they say has to be taken with a grain of salt, but I guess any news is good news at this point. While the picture quality on standard-def MASN is horrible, their HD games are always outstanding.

Hello, Verizon FiOS? Are you listening?!?

I can't even get most of the HD games THIS YEAR in HD, since I've got FiOS.

Verizon claims that they will add a lot more HD channels by year end, hopefully MASN HD will be among them.

I just got a piece of mail from Verizon, announcing a bunch of new HD channels, effective 9/22.

There is no spot (yet) for MASN. Of course, MASN probably would not run any HD programming in the baseball off-season. I hope Verizon will open up some space for MASN HD by next summer!

MASN does produce some CAA college football and basketball games during the baseball off-season, but I guess it would be a stretch to expect them to produce those events in HD. They also carry a bunch of syndicated college football and basketball from ESPN Regional that theoretically could become available in HD in the future, but that probably isn't happening anytime soon, either.
