Ryan Church gets Re-Assurance

Nationals manager Manny Acta placed a call to outfielder Ryan Church on Friday, with Acta giving Church nothing but positive reinforcement.

It has been reported that Church is on the trading block, but Acta told him not to worry about that kind of talk and that he would give him a chance to battle for a starting job on the team.

"Obviously, he is a hot commodity and some teams have been asking about him," Acta said. "I didn't want him to worry about that. I was reassuring him that I was happy to be reunited with him and the at-bats are going to be there."

I hope not but we don't exactly have a lot left to offer and we desperately need starting pitching. With Bud having picked a tightwad for an owner the plus side for keeping Ryan is that he only makes a little more than league minimum which should fit in well with their draconian payroll cutback.

No one in their wildest dreams would have envisioned the new owner coming in and cutting payroll from the not very lofty levels that MLB maintained when they owned the team.
