The Vancouver Canucks have apparently jumped into the Peter Forsberg sweepstakes, and they hope that a childhood friend may influence "Foppa's" decision.
In an interview with Vancouver radio station CKNW, Canucks captain Markus Naslund admits he has spoken to Forsberg and he is trying his best to get his former junior linemate to the Canucks. “I'm doing what I can,” Naslund told CKNW Radio. “I'm sure there is lots of interest in him. We'll see where he ends up. I think his main focus right now is trying to get healthy with his foot and after that he'll make a decision.” Forsberg and Naslund were childhood friends in the northern Swedish city of Ornskoldsvik. Forsberg also has a connection with the Sedin twins, having played with them during the lockout for Modo of the Swedish Elite League. The Canucks are just the latest team to express an interest in Forsberg as a report out of Ottawa on Wednesday had the Senators speaking to Forsberg's agent. Forsberg, who is an unrestricted free agent, underwent ankle surgery last month but says he has responded well from the procedure. Last season, Forsberg scored 40 points in 40 games with the Philadelphia Flyers before being dealt to the Nashville Predators at the trade deadline. He added 15 points in 17 games for the Predators, who were ousted in the first round of the playoffs by the San Jose Sharks. ![]()
