Leafs look for another exec

The Maple Leafs quietly are attempting to lure an experienced senior executive to head up their hockey operation, Sun Media has learned.

At the same time, it has been learned that Maple Leafs CEO Richard Peddie recently met with legendary ex-coach Scott Bowman in Buffalo to discuss a senior position, quite possibly as team president with the Leafs.

While Bowman denies having met with Peddie and denies having interest in a position with the Leafs -- "I have no interest at all," he said in a telephone interview -- Peddie was given the opportunity to deny he met with Bowman for several hours and chose not to.

"I'm not going to comment on that," Peddie said. "If we have things to do, we'll do it from the inside. I'm not going to go down that road.

Ok, take this with a grain of salt. It IS Steve Simmons, after all...

But Scotty Bowman???


I'd KILL for that kind of hockey mind to take over from Peddie. Hell, even a Pet Rock would be better than Peddie...

But clearly, that's where Simmons is off his rocker. Bowman has no interest in coming to the Leafs. He's still an employee of the Wings, if I'm not mistaken, and certainly wouldn't want to get caught up in the politics being played at MLSEL.

Who would... hence Peddie...

I love how Simmons says that Peddie had plenty of time to deny the claim, but still did not. Ummm... ya, Steve. Because he KNEW you were off your rocker for suggesting it, and didn't bother to give it the time of day...

But if there's even a SHRED of truth to the idea that anybody in Leafland is looking for a Colangelo-type of rejuvination in their hockey operations, that's damn good news.

So, on the mere pipedream that there is a shred of truth to that, who do you think was "contacted" by MLSEL?

Who should they contact?

.... and shouldn't they simply fire Peddie's ass either way???
