What a blowout that was!
Great play from Kubina, Colaiacovo, O'Neill, Steen, Poni, and the usual suspects: (Sundin, Welly, Tucker as always.) Welly's first hat trick in the NHL, with lots of help from Mats on the third one. I can't believe anybody would want to think of trading Mats. This team would be nowhere without him. He out-worked two Ranger defenders to make his way from behind the net to the front of it, still controlling the puck. With the two defenders and Lundqvist paying attention to Mats, Welly simply came in, took the beauty short pass and shot it into the empty net behind Lundqvist. Stajan needs to pick up his game. I'm disappointed. But at least he doesn't cost us goals. Speaking of costing us goals... Ian ****ing White again... interferes with Rayzor to cause the first Ranger goal. Could have been 8-0 before the Rangers scored one, if not for that... :rolleyes And count them: not one, but TWO attempts by Ranger players to take out the knees of a Leafs. Belak was the first victim, thanks to Kaspar - who's pulled that crap before. I wanted so much for Belak to clock Kaspar after that one! Slashes must be called. They're like an intent to injure. And they are. Folding yourself in half and heading straight at the opponent's knees are a DEFINITE attempt to injure. It should be called with ZERO tolerance, IMO. For shame, refs. *thumbsdown* Jagr and Shanny mostly invisible on their scoreboard. They played great, as expected, but the Leafs forecheck and defense kept them from doing much damage. And we all know they are more than capable of causing damage! Great job by the buds on them two. Rayzor was solid in net. The first goal was not the softie that it appeared - that was White's gift to the other team for bumping Rayzor just before the shot was taken. Inexperienced play. I do like White, however. I think he'll be a good defender in years to come. He needs some grooming and time in the minors, but he'll be back. Belak on the other hand... needs to ride the pine until an enforcer is needed. Period. No other value to our team, IMO. Belak 1, Orr 0, btw. I loved how the play was in the Rangers end for 2/3 of the game. Also loved how the Leafs kept up the pressure all game long. They didn't sit back after it was four or five to one. I guess they lost enough games by sitting back that they've finally learned their lessons. And why did they keep Lundqvist in so long??? *scratches head* They had some spark when Weekes was finally put in, but they were listless as the Leafs kept scoring and scoring and scoring. You can see the Rangers starting to give up by the end of the second period. Even easy icings for the Leafs were negated simply because the Rangers didn't even try to beat us to the puck. So in the end, the Rangers' five-game winning streak comes to an end, and the Leafs keep building with three wins in a row, after a terrible losing streak. Sure hope Tucker is just sore, and nothing's broken... Great confidence builder for the buds! Great effort by everyone on the team, (other than the one bad play by White, and Stajan.)
