Must be close to a deal. This is not good news in my opinion. Meche is a mediocre pitcher.
He'll be our 2007 Loaiza. 5.00+ ERA if we sign him, book it. We're better off with Marcum/Janssen and saving the $8 million or whatever it costs. |

Why would you say that?
why would you ask that? This is exactly what happened last year when we started seeing JP whining and dining guys like BJ and AJ, and then they signed shortly after. Meche wouldnt be here if he wasnt interested. Its been widely speculated that we are the most likely place he will sign. 1+1 = 2 Last edited by TrueBlueJay; November 29th, 2006 at 05:47 AM. |

Lots of teams entertain players. If Meche goes to 4 different cities, he is close to signing with all of them? I wish this were true, Tracy McGrady would be a Chicago Bull cuz he threw out the first pitch at Wrigley while he was a Free Agent.

Now, why do the Jays like to take players to Leafs games? So they can sit there listening to hockey fans saying "baseball is boring and it sucks"? |

Players can enjoy a free night on the town (RC, Raptors/Leafs game/strip club(s)) and use it as leverage for another team to increase their bid as well.
Screw Gil-illy Padilla. Don't big bucks on unfulfilled potential. |

I know this doesn't mean a deal is imminent, but it does mean we are courting him which to me implies that we do have another 10 Million or so to put towards a pitcher. Its not my money and it certainly wouldn't hurt to see anohter experienced arm in the rotation but IMO its a big waste of money on a starter who I anticipate will have an ERA this year north of 5.00. Lets hope its not too long of a contract if it happens.

I'd rather have Lilly over Okha just because Lilly usually pitches well against the Yankees, and is downright dominant against the Red Sox.
However, I give me Okha over Meche ANYDAY. Meche is trash. I would rather us run with Lilly and Janssen and spend the Meche money on Lugo! |

Maybe I was dreaming when it came to the Yanks, I thought he was decent against them last year.
But come on...clearly the Red sox stats must be skewed by some bad outings from several years ago, because the last few seasons he has been downright dominant versus the Red Sox...you have to remember that. |

Maybe its because I happened to go to a lot of Lilly vs. Boston games.
He threw a shutout with 13 strikeouts a couple of years ago against them at the Rogers Centre. I just seem to remember Lilly's curveball always giving Ortiz fits! Anyways, I just remember Lilly doing well against the Red Sox the last few years... |
