Draft Central: The Official Site of Major League Baseball: Events: 2007 DraftCaster
The Florida Marlins just picked 3B Matt Dominguez at 12th overall. Our first pick is coming up at 16th overall. Unfortunately I can't watch the draft because I live in Canada. This Draft Central thing is really great though, with nice scouting reports and video! |

Kevin Ahrens is a 6'1'' 190 pound SS playing at Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. He is a switch hitter, but is better from the right side. Many believe he will be a third basemen once he turns pro because he does not have to much range and could grow into a physical third basemen. He is a great hitter with above average defense. He posted a .426 average with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs this spring for Memorial High School.

Jonathan Arencibia is a 6'1'' 210 pound C playing at the University of Tennesse. He is a right handed batter. He is all about the bat. Arencibia profiles as an offensive-minded catcher. Like most catchers, Arencibia is a slow runner. His defense is below average but good enough for him to stay behind the plate. Risky pick as he was supposedly no longer in the first round mix because of a back injury but lets hope the reward makes the risk worthwhile. Arencibia, who was also drafted by Seattle in the 17th round of the '04 Draft, finished his collegiate career as one of Tennessee's top hitters. He ranks third in school history in total bases (381), fourth in RBIs (165) and fifth in home runs (33). During his junior year, Arencibia hit .330 with eight homers, 42 RBIs and a .545 slugging percentage in 52 games.

Brett Cecil is a 6'3'' 220 pound LHP playing at Maryland College Park. His fastball clocks in from 89-92 MPH. His best pitch, the slider, is a major league out pitch already, clocking in anywhere from 81-86 MPH and many scouts believe for him to be successful he needs to develop a change up otherwise it will make it difficult for him to get right-handed hitters out at the next level. Cecil appeared in 30 games this year, starting two. He racked up a 5-6 record with a 3.32 ERA, 8 saves in 62.1 innings.

Justin Jackson is a 6'2'' 175 pound SS playing for TC Robinson High School in North Carolina. He wont be a big power hitter but he could potentially hit 15-20 homers a season. Doesn't get good acceleration but is a above average runner. Good defensively, his arm strength is superb. He's got 12 HR's this year, and hit over .500.

Trystan Magnuson is a 6'7'' 210 pound RHP at Louisville University. He compiled a 3-1 record, 1.02 ERA and nine saves. He has a low-90s fastball and mid-80s slider that he has learned to keep down in the zone. He gets ahead in the count with his fastball and uses his slider as a chase pitch. He'll have to improve its break in order for it to be as effective in pro ball.

John Tolisano is a 5'11'' 179 pound 2B playing for Estero High School in Florida. He is a switch hitter but is better from the left side. His defense is excellent except for range, which is why many people see him as a second basemen in pro. Tolisano has developing power and good bat speed. He hit .518 in his swan song with eight homers, 10 doubles and 42 RBIs.

Eric Eiland is a 6'2'' CF at Lamar High School in Texas. Eiland has excellent bat speed, but it doesn't always translate into results. His swing is a little rough, though he can put on a display during batting practice and is a pull-oriented, line-drive hitter. Excellent runner, always a threat to steal. Eiland is a toolsy outfielder with a very athletic body.

Alan Farina is a 5'11'' 195 pound RHP at Clemson University. Farina can throw his fastball in the 89-94 mph range, his slider projects as an average pitch, Farina's curve is not consistent now, but projects to be an average pitch and once again, there's projection with this pitch and it could be an average offering in the future. He has good control and poise on the mound.
