Default Zaun re-signed???

It appears that Zaun is on the verge of re-signing with the Jays. No word on Barajas...

This is surprising. I can't see them keeping both catchers, but you never know it could happen. Maybe the Barajas deal falls through since its not finalzied. Which would be fine by me Zaun is a good fit.

It sounds like there was a snag in the negotiations with Barajas. JP wanted to get the catching situation resolved before the winter meetings. I'm sure he would have preferred Barajas but if it fell through, he had to do something.

I don't think he preferred Barajas, as he initially offered Zaun a better deal than he did Barajas.

It's really weird...I'm trying to keep up over at BVTN...
It seems like...
Barajas no showed the physical and fired his agent; two possible causes at this point, did not like the money being offered or did not like that he would NOT be the starter after all.
Zaun was contacted and now the Jays are in negotiations and close to signing him.
Jeff Blair says that:
"One of these guys is going to be the Blue Jays catcher," a source close to negotiations said late Monday night.

What a crazy turn of events. But I've got to tell you, I do feel a lot better having old Zaunie back behind the plate. Barajas was just fine and dandy but Zaun was my #1 choice. He is a good fit on this team and in the clubhouse too.

It is a done deal, Zaun is returning, 2 years 7.25 million with a vesting option for a third year based on games played.

Breaking news: Barajas DID accept the contract afterall, 2 yr 7M and JP has told Zaun that he won't be returning despite agreeing to a verbal contract.
Just Kidding.

Its official, 2 yrs, 7.25 M

Overpaid.

We spend $2 million more over the 2 years than we were going to have Barajas for. I wonder what REALLY happened?

I would rather have Barajas, but its not like I'll lose any sleep over this. Bottom line is our catching is a weakness.

I had originally wanted Zaun and glad we were able to retain his services. We always knew he was a clubhouse guy, but during the Shea fiasco he really won me over. He definitely very well spoken leader who understands the ins and out of the game.
