Over at BVTN I posted an article analyzing the moves made by JP Ricciardi in his first five seasons as Blue Jays' GM! Utilizes VORP, WIn Shares, ERA+ and OPS+ plus the normal statistics. It hopefully makes for a good read and good walk down nostalgia lane. There are some intersting findings also...

After looking at that article it appears Riccardi hasn't been that bad when it comes to trades. Sure he has had a few bad ones like acquiring Prokopec and Lidle as well as trading Felipe Lopez. But overall he has had some good trades. And the bad ones haven't hurt him that bad. Even most of the trades that appeared to favour the other team fit in wiht the Blue Jays objectives and still helped us.
After reading this I am going to give him a B when it comes to trades. His free agent signings are of course not included in this analysis. |

They're included in another analysis on BVTN...look to the right for Ricciardi Project - Free Agents.

After reading that one as well I will give him a B+ on Free agent signings.
Sure the Koskie signing was the most significant bust, and there were some bad bullpen signings with Lightenberg, Koch and Schoenweiss. But none of these deals were huge amounts of money for very long terms and they didn't seriously hurt our payroll flexibility. With the market where it is now, the signings of Burnett and Ryan last year look like gems. And Riccardi has made some key lower cost signings that panned out very well with Cat and Zaun for example. |
