Well I would have preferred Zaun, even if we had to pay him another half a million a season. But I am glad we got somebody and Barajas might be okay for us. You don't often get a lot of offense out of the catcher position anyway, but its nice to have a guy who can pop some homeruns there from time to time, so I like his power near the bottom of the order. My biggest concern is his ability with the pitching staff, in Texas the pitching always sucks so I won't fault him for that but how he does in that regard IMO is more important than his defense.

Our team if healthy should be among the league leaders in team HR.
Johnson:10 HR Rios: 20 HR Overbay: 25 HR Wells: 34 HR Thomas: 38 HR Glaus: 38 HR Barajas: 20 HR Hill: 10 HR 2B/Adams: 10 HR Thats 205 HR from our starting lineup, not counting bench. |

Don't expect much production at the plate for Barajas. .240 BA and.282 OBP is awful. At least he has some pop though. Hopefully he can be solid behind the plate and a catcher who can throw a runner out once in awhile would be nice to see. Wish Zaun would have comeback but he looks to be overpriced and is getting up there in age.
Lets hope Thigpen develops quickly and can be the fulltime catcher in 2008. |
