Gary Matthews Jr. signs on With the Angels for 5 years 50 million. I guess we can scratch them off the list as possible trading partners for Wells. |

I would have liked to trade Wells if it meant we could have got Santana, Saunders and Aybar. If not then I would have kept Wells
Not sure if the Angels would have done that, yet they did make an "opening" offer of Santana and Aybar. In a perfect world we would have made the trade I wanted, and ran with a pitching rotation of: Doc AJ Gus Santana Saunders Then with the money saved on not signing Wells ($15 + million) and not signing an expensive pitcher like Lilly ($9 million?) and not having to sign a Lugo or Kennedy or other option at 2B/SS ($5 million+) we would have had about $30 million. Spend about $13 Million of that to get JD Drew, which replaces Wells' bat and takes him away from the Red Sox. We'd still have had a murderers row of: LF Reed CF Rios RF Drew DH Thomas 3B Glaus 1B Overbay C Zaun 2B Hill SS Aybar And we would have saved abotu $15 million + for the future (trade deadline pickup, big signing next year, bank the money to keep the current team together in the future, etc) OK you guys can pinch me, since there is a ZERO % chance of that happening now, but it would have been sweet! |
