Since someone has broadcast that fanhome is back through scout, is there any way we can keep JP talk to threads about JP. (If there is any)
It is annoying to see perfectly good threads get destroyed when someone offers their opinion as to what JP would do. Maybe, make a rule that you have to put JP in the title, so that anyone that isn't interested in talking about JP doesn't have to look.

It's been suggested many times, and even tried ... but there's no way of keeping threads from becoming JP threads. It would be unenforceable. A thread can start off as a non-JP thread ... but JP's name will come up for whatever reason, and someone may make a value judgement about JP ... and the floodgates open. How do you stop that? Do you say, "sorry, this isn't a JP thread, we can't debate this point"? Or do you ban all mention of JP's name? You can always make the suggestion ... but people aren't going to follow it, and if you try to make them, people will cry foul. Discussions about the team are inextricably linked to who the GM is, and it's natural for threads to evolve into discussions about the merits (or lack thereof) of the GM. I'd love it if I never had to read another JP debate, but the likelihood of a group of board members sticking to a "put JP in the JP threads" policy is near zero. |

I know it is difficult.
But not trying might risk degenerating to what scout's page has become

Unfortunately, that's what pretty much every Jays board becomes, in one way or another.
JP is the Great Divider. We could be agreeing on subjects with our sworn enemies ... everyone feeling good ... and then, someone invokes two famous initials. Example: Poster1: I think the Jays should sign Player X. He says he wants to play for the Jays and will take very little money to do it. Plus, he's a great player. Poster2: I agree that he's a great player. He hit 94 home runs last season, and had an OPS of 1.500. He'd be one of our better hitters, I think. Poster1: Unfortunately, he's a catcher, so we'd have to get rid of Zaun. Poster2: Agreed, but he's only looking for half the money Zaun is. Poster1: Good point. Poster2: Of course, it's not going to happen, because JP is an idiot. Poster1: You're an idiot. Poster2: You love JP. Poster1: You love Gord Ash. Poster2: Your mother wears army boots. Poster1: Your mother loves Gord Ash. Poster2: Your mother IS Gord Ash. Poster1: JP rules. Poster2: JP sucks. Poster1: JP! JP! JP! Poster2: Moron! Moron! Moron! |
