TheStar.com - Sports - Third coming of Boomer Wells?
I don't know if this was anywhere else on the boards, I apologize in advance if it already is. Apparently David Wells wants to sign on with the Padres but if they do not reach some sort of agreement the Jays are expected to make a pitch to him, and although unlikely to sign, Wells would give consideration to the Jays. Otherwise Jays are going to break camp with what they've got pitching wise. Finally if anyone cares the Jays also signed catcher Sal Fasano to a minor league deal with an invite to the major-league camp. There is always a shortage of decent available starting pitching but this year it is ridiculous, and clearly that is the only reason why J.P. would even consider bringing in a guy like Wells. However the contract would be cheap, and might be fortunate to catch lightening in a bottle, even if it were for only the first half of the season until better options present themselves. That rumour has been around for several days, but according to JP that is pretty much what it is, a rumour.
