Penny-
http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseba...rts-mlb-dodger http://www.pe.com/sports/baseball/br...7.3a08649.html Jennings-http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_4793588 These are interesting, I'm still weary of moving Wells yet getting someone like Penny,Kemp and a prospect for Vernon seems Okay, or how about that Reed and a prospect pitcher for Jennings very intriguing indeed. Thoughts? Last edited by TheShaker99; 12-09-2006 at 08:01 AM. |

Jennings sub 4.00 ERA last year after a number of 5.00+ years reminds me too much of Josh Towers sub 3.71 ERA in 2005.
Jennings had never been a plus pitcher before...I don't think we should get him, plus toss in the fact that he turned down 8 million + a year from Colorado on an extension...he'd be expensive to resign. Penny I'm not sure about. He's put up some decent numbers, but always in pitchers parks (LA, FLA) I'd rather get Billingsley and Kemp if we were doing a deal with LA involving VW |

His home ERA this year was actually lower than his road ERA this past year, as well as in 2003: 2006 - 3.78 ERA overall, 3.56 at home, 3.97 road 2005 - 5.02 ERA overall, 5.16 at home, 4.87 road 2004 - 5.51 ERA overall, 6.15 at home, 4.86 road 2003 - 5.11 ERA overall, 4.64 at home, 5.38 road Coors is a huge factor to most pitchers, but doesnt seem to have had as great an impact on Jennings, at least the last few years. And even if we discount Coors, looking only at his road numbers still stink from 2003 onward, other than this past season. I'm not saying he wouldnt turn out to be good, maybe he has turned his career around? But his career pattern looks awfully similar to Josh Towers before last season. And he wants more than $8 million per year. I wouldnt give him that if he was a FA, let alone trading Wells or Reed and a prospect for him. Its not that I think Jennings is going to pull a Towers and put up an 8.00 ERA or anything next year, its just that I'd be very careful about getting a player who has only put up one good year after a number of poor ones. I wouldnt be surprised if Jennings reverts back to his 5.00 ERA self next season. Last edited by TrueBlueJay; 12-09-2006 at 01:32 PM. |

I think Coors has a bad effect on a player period. Even if his road stats are worse I think the effect of pitching in Coors and some bad outings at Coors can really shake a pitchers confidence to the point that there starts outside of Coors are affected as well.
Jennings was good last year and maybe he has turned a corner or maybe he had one year that was off his career pattern. It would be worth having him but it would not be worth over paying for him as Truebluejays states. |

I would love to see the Jays do a deal with the Rockies trading Wells + prospect for Jennings, Troy Tulowitzki and Franklin Morales. We get a shortshop and starting pitcher and an excellent left-handed pitching prospect who can hit 98 on the gun.
