Since we have lost out on both pitchers we were trying to acquire and assuming we had enough money in the budget to sign both of them. Which direction should we go in.
1) Put that money towards signing Vernon Wells to a long term contract at the 18-20 Million a season he is likely to command. 2) Trade Wells for pitching help, perhaps to the White Sox for Brandon McCarthy and prospects. 3)Stil try to get some arms such as Suppan or Batista for hopefully a little less money. 4) Shift gears and instead of going for 2 mediocre starters, put all that money into one big time arm such as Barry Zito. 5) Turn attention back to Julio Lugo, assuming his deal with Boston is not 100% official. 6) Put some of that money into shoring up the bullpen with Gagne or Dotel to set up Ryan. 7) Stand pat with Jansenn and Marcum in the rotation and save the money for next year. |

On another note I like the idea of going after a Dotel or Gagne if they could be had for a relatively cheap deal, which I doubt. But imagine: League in the 7th, Dotel/Gagne in the 8th, and Ryan in the 9th. And then there is Frasor and Accardo for middle innings, we’d just need a left-handed specialist and we’d have the strongest pen in all of baseball, our starters wouldn’t have to go very far into games at all.
A more realistic option would be to look for a team that is trying to dump salary, with the increase in salary we could absorb a SP and hopefully give up little in return. |

I really like the idea of a dynamite bullpen myself. I especially like Gagne, he only wants a one year deal which tells me that he is pretty confident he will be back to top form because he thinks he can get a long term Ryan type deal next summer. He is Canadian and Gagne at his top setting up for Ryan could maybe be the best one-two relief punch in the history of baseball. (Perhaps you guys can debate that).

Yes, I like this idea , yet when I was on the MLB.com website for Oakland they are far more interested in a McGowan-Lind and Romero for Harden!! I think that's a little too much future but Harden would be Toronto's future, with are SP staff.

Why are you always asking me questions? Are you able to figure anything out on your own?
No, its that you are trying to bait me, as usual. Lind's defence is a question mark. Reed covers good ground but has a weak arm for a RF. But we'd survive. |

Ok, I'll play your game, but then you finally have to answer my questions:
My prediction, and this is just my estimate: Reed: .810 OPS Lind: this is tough one since he's a rookie, it really could be anywhere, but i'll take a stab at: .800 OPS Lind could be better, or worse, tough to tell. Now for your and OPS estimates? and also how do you feel about Reed's D in RF and Lind in LF? Also, what do you feel AJ Burnett's ERA will be this year, and how many IP will he throw? How many wins? Thanks in advance |
