From what I am reading on rotoworld teams are unwilling to give him a guaranteed 2 year deal. I personally think he is a better signing on a 2 year deal than Lilly or Meche or Padilla would be on a 3-4 year deal. He is a veteran who knows how to pitch and can provide great leadership to our younger arms. The fact that he has never pitched for an AL team only makes things better as a lot of the hitters in the AL haven't seen much of him.
Perhaps he would prefer to stay on the west coast and may not want to come to Canada, but we should atleast make a competitive offer. |

or zito. Perhaps the subject has been beaten to death in another thread or maybe he's declared somewhere his unwillingness to come to TO but I'd rather overspend on a consistant, talented, durable, star quality lefty than on underachieving headcases...
I'm sure he's not the greatest arm in the league but if lilly is going to get 10-11 for 4yrs...what's so outlandish re giving zito 16 for 6...hell, in two years 16 will likely be a bargain.... |

Schmidt would be a better option than Zito. Zito can't pitch vs the AL East, and he's overrated. He had a great start to his career, but now he's basically Ted Lilly. Schmidt would give us a formidable 1-2-3 of Doc-AJ-Schmidt. In a playoff series they would be beasts. |

Maddux will never pitch in the AL. I would like to see JP get one good arm the 2 mediocore ones. Neither Meche nor Lilly excite me. To be honest none of the pitches in this free agency excite me. Zito is overrated and Schmits best years are behind him plus he has never pitched in the AL. Hopefully JP can pull a rabbit out of his hat and get the pitcher we need for a resonable price. But in this years market you might as well ask him to come up with a rhyme for orange.

For almost double the price. I am not a fan of either Lilly or Zito. Obviously it would be nice to have either of them at the moment but for the price both of them will be commanding I would rather start a couple of our young guys and hope one of them steps up bigtime.

I don't see why the Jays don't go after Mulder, and sign a backend starter like Ohka to plug the hole until Mulder comes back healthy. If Ohka's doing better than the 5th starter, he could slide in there. It's not a bad thing to have some insurance in the SP spot is there?
