Default pondering our next move

Im blown away by the contracts being handed out. $18 million for Spier? $13 million for Cat? $15 million for AGon? At this rate I am afraid of what Lily will be asking for. $48 million for 4 years?! Dont laugh! If non-stars like Cat and Agon can get contracts like that, dont be surprised by what Lily gets. Also the price for Wells just offically went through the roof. If Soriano can get $136 million/8 years then Wells could get $100 million/5 years at least. And Meche could conceivably score as high as $40 million/3 years. We should offer arbitration to both Zaun and Molina, as 1 year of arby will be cheaper than free market prices. Im assuming that we offer it to Lily so we can at least get a pick for him.

I really hope we let Lilly go and look elsewhere for a starting pitcher. I would love to see Mark Mulder. If his rotator cuff recovers he could be a great pickup, similar to when the Cardinals picked up Carpender after he had a couple injury riddled seasons. That turned out pretty well.

$45 million for freakin' Juan Pierre?! You've got to be kidding me. Frank Thomas is a bargain compared to that. Low onbase percentage, low slugging percentage, indifferent fielder to boot and thats the money he gets? Dont be surprised if Wells gets $120 million/6 years now. Wouldt you agree that Wells is twice the player Juan Pirre is? At this point it would be better to not trade him and see what happens at the deadline. We would be negotiating with one arm tied behind us as teams know we have to trade him. Frankly, if LA is still willing to do Santana and Aybar we shoiuld do it. Today in the Star Zaun says he and the Jays are not close on what he figures he should get. He probably is gone, maybe to Kansas. Can we offer arbitration to Molina iot would be good if he agreed to that. We would only be on the hook for 1 year at $5 million then.

If Lilly somehow got 4/48 (I don't think he will, but assuming he did), you can bet A.J Burnett will opt out of his contract (assuming he puts together a nice season). I never though A.J's deal would start to look like a bargain.

Looks like Carlos Lee is getting 16.7 Million a year for 6 years. Thats the cheap way of putting it, a 6 year 100 million dollar deal. He will put up big numbers in that stadium but he isn't worth anywhere close to that.

this is ridiculous.

Carlos Lee is not worth that kind of money.

This has gotta make AROD feel a lot better about his salary nowadays LOL

What is sad is that much like 2001 when a lot of huge deals were signed which hurt teams financially. 2006 will be remembered for pretty much the same reasons.
