Default Royce Clayton Article

http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/news_story/?ID=186570&hubname=mlb

I guess we'll still be seeing Johnny Mac playing quite abit. I have always looked at him as a rally killer and although Clayton isn't a big stick his average is still significantly higher then Johns.

No way Hill should play short and Clayton 2nd. Thats pretty much defeats the purpose of signing a cheap defensive shortstop if your going to play him out of position. I think JP just want to keep his options open going into camp.

I'm thinking that JP isnt proclaiming Royce da 5'9" the starter yet, because he is still going to look to address the position via trade at the winter meetings.

Also, even if he doesnt upgrade the SS position at the meetings, I think J-Mac will strictly be the backup, and we'd see an Adams/Royce platoon for the starting job. If one guy takes the ball and runs with it, its his. I feel Adams deserves one more shot, but if he blows it, then Royce runs with it.

You think Adams deserves another shot at short?

Not much of a shot, but if we dont pick anyone else up, why not?

He showed promise before last year. The kid was really lacking confidence last year, maybe a fresh season he starts hot and takes the ball and runs with it? And if not, he's done. I would have a very short leash with him next year.

Adams will have to earn everything.
Just like Rios last year.
That is the way to develop 'spects properly.
They play well or a cheap vet plays.

good point, the Rios comparison is a good one. Before last season many Jays fans had given up on Rios after such a poor 2nd half in 2005.

Adams has the talent to be a decent hitting shortstop, its always been the glove with him. Last year he really struggled with the bat, I really hope he can turn it around, and if not, sayonara Adams!

Adams doesn't have the defensive ability to play the SS position.

Putting him there would be folly.

but thats where he's been his whole career right? Its his throwing arm, not his range that was a problem. Maybe he can iron out his throwing problems?

I know I'm being optimistic but a guy can hope

Adams recently has had an eratic throwing arm but has always had a weak arm which is why he was moved to 2nd. If Adams has a break out season and starts to hit, he will be at 2nd and Hill will be at short. Just say no to Adams at short.
