Having Gomes/Dukes/Baldelli sit on the bench is crazy... if you are going to compete you have to have pitching first and foremost....
The A's need a CF -- i'm sure you can get one ML ready guy and one solid B+ prospect for him.... ![]() |

Because this isn't the NHL and you don't keep shuffling the lineup?
Baldelli has an injury habit. Dukes has issues with authority and attitude. BJ Upton is due to be shuffled into the OF as part of his "Super Utility" role by Maddon. Add Young and Crawford and Jonny Gomes to the list and you have five potential OF's. The Rays need a solid VETERAN reliever -- JMU, the point of baseball is not to collect "Major League Ready" prospects and more prospects. if Gerry and Matt can figure that fact out, maybe they could get something they need on the roster NOW instead of a player PROJECTED to play a role at a certain position sometime in the future. |

I'm pretty sure Baldelli is a in line for a huge raise next year......
Trade Baldelli to Rangers for Eric Hurley and Brad Wilkerson... or Trade Gomes to Minnesota for Scott Baker and Alexi Casilla Baker OWNS the yankees.. check his stats the past two years vs. them. The CWS needs a DH -- send them Gomes plenty of fits it just comes down to making a decision... Rays gonna contend in 2007 with Fossum, Seo, whatever other clowns are in the Starting rotation... Nope |

Yep, HUGE raise, all the way to 2.25M$...
He has an option in '09 for 6M$ with a 4M$ buyout. He didn't hit his 2006 PA performance bonus. He's VERY cheap. Crawford on the other hand is owed 5.25M$ next year.

Rich Harden of the A's is rumored to be on the trading block. Why not send Baldelli and a throw-in arm to Oakland for him? Maybe it would take Baldelli, Gomes plus an arm, or Baldelli, Cantu and Gomes for Harden and Marshall. There's some kind of combination that would likely work for both teams.
