1-13 and Maddon doesn't see a problem.
1-13 and Maddon is shooting for the Rays off day and how the team responds to it and plays after it.... 1-13 and Maddon's keeping an even keel while the team lacks leadership... They are looking for it from within and I don't think they will find it. With a team of cast offs and prospects who have never been there (anywhere over 70 wins), the leadership they seek isn't part of the Rays franchise right now... Unless you count Fred McGriff who has a coaching job with the franchise. 1-13 this spring... Of course, the games don't count but when they start counting, what's going to happen? Will the Rays put Maddon out to pasture if his Zen managerial style continues to not accomplish anything? |

Maddon is a, california wine tasting, black glasses wearing, bufoon.
He got the job cause he told his NY stock broker owner he used computers and stats to help him make all his bad decisions. HE IS A YES man, these two NY stock broker clowns chased Lou P out because he knew they were full of Shat! Maddon will not be fired for at the very least three more years, I hear the D-Rays will actually make a profit this year, thanks to revenue sharing and low payroll. |

Maddon is hardly the worst kind of guy for the Rays, but he is kind of a Pollyanna. Given the lack of talent, I can't see Maddon succeeding here, but he acts like things are completely on track. He will be gone after this year or next, and maybe some of the younger guys will have developed by then to make the Rays at least a .500 team. Beyond that, I don't see the need to call him names or make comments that are completely ill informed. Personally, I have never believed that managers make that much difference, except on championship-type teams. Managers can not make bad or mediocre players play well or even acceptable. |

secorp, you obviously have a very low opinion of the Devil Rays. My question is why you plan on being at the Cigar Bar all season, crying over the team as you claimed in the other thread?
Maddon might be losing my support... but I'm not trying to tear him down to the level you're taking it. |

When Lou was here he realized that the ownership were morons and not commited to winning, and said as much in the papers, that's what got him caned.
During the coaching interviews the owners said they wanted a guy who new how to use computers and was a coach of the future, a coach who used spread sheets to track tendency's, a coach who would use raw data to predict were to place his outfielders, hence last years defence of the Red Sox's big PAPY. every body switched to right field including the short stop in short right field.... The Rays have a coach with no feel for the game, they have a computer who tells them who to pitch and how many pitches they can throw, who to place in the line up, etc. Maddon was hired to be fired. |
