I know Shinji Mori was injured and taking a big step trying to come back from a torn labrum, but why did the Rays buy him out? When the bullpen is thin to begin with... Buying him out just seems like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic before the ship leaves port.

To clear a spot on the 40 man roster.

He was given a minor league contract so he is still with the team but now he won't take up a space on the 40 man roster.
