Default Did the Rays pass on Scott Olsen?

The Rays want two young starting pitchers for Baldelli?

The Marlins did make a push for Rocco Baldelli and would have been willing to give up Scott Olsen and some lesser pieces for the Devil Rays' center fielder. But talks ended when it became apparent Tampa Bay wanted two members of the Marlins' rotation.

The Rays made a big deal out of the fact minor moves or only lateral moves wouldn't cut it for a deal for Rocco. I can't say if a Baldelli/Olsen+others deal would have been worth it but the Rays want to compete and in trading with the Marlins -- were holding all the cards (Marlins can't afford much and are desperate for a center fielder.)

The Rays were also rumored to have turned down a deal for BJ Upton to the Marlins. I saw this reported in the St. Pete Times though and I don't care much for Marc Topkin's sources... So take it with salt.
