New stadium poll and discussion thread #1

I'm posting several poll concerning the Tampa Bay Rays quest for a new stadium (with reason). I'd like for everyone to contribute their two cents to the discussion if possible.

I'm for the proposal because even though the area may not know it, they don't want to lose the Rays. Also, I'm hoping a new stadium brings out more fans.

Isn't this a contradiction? Almost hypocritical? The discussion has never involved "The area" -- the Tampa Bay metro region. It's been St. Petersburg alone. St. Pete forced the location of a MLB team in the area by building Tropicana Field to begin with... I won't get into that story any more.

Now the Rays, I can say this from memory and can't cite the article, had conducted a private survey among "residents adn season ticket holders" -- none of which I have ever heard talk about this publicly. This survey asked locations for a new stadium and all teh locations were in and around St. Petersburg.

That's not the area. That's St. Petersburg. The lease binds the team to St. Petersburg and in some cases, scorn the name "Tampa Bay" beign attached to the franchise.

I understand the business reasons (the lease) the team has to explore new locations in and around St. Petersburg -- but none of the discussion involves the general area. It's a city of St. Petersburg Thing. Not Pinellas County, not Tampa, not Hillsborough County or the wider Tampa Bay metroplex... St. Petersburg.

And the fact St. Pete is one little island at the south end of a broader region is part of the reason why the team is not drawing. Location. Location. Location.
