I was thinking Tortorella should have told Hanlon (or sent a message) the Lightning wouldn't try to score on that late late late OT advantage. That was just BS all around from Refs. They'd gotten hit earlier and now the Caps were getting hit.
And any other game those penalties might not be called... Just because of how selective penalties are enforced in the NHL. - |

Whew.
I really wish they'd change it so if you're on a PP at the end of OT, the game extends until the end of the man advantage. The big 3 were great tonight. Stewart was getting some good minutes. Got tossed like a rag doll once, but was pretty solid and energetic.

Pretty horrid officiating all around, it just particularly burnt the Bolts at the end of regulation. Took a while for Vinny to get going, but boy did he show up just in time. And this team just doesn't know how to lose lately, it's just awesome how much fight they have in them compared to last year and earlier in the season. They've got that thrive on adversity attitude again.

Yup. Definitely the worst officiated game I've seen in a long, long time.
Those calls against WSH late in OT were horrendous. Just awful. Well, the holding call was, the crosscheck of St. Louis was legit. Officiating is keeping this sport down. It's tough when you've followed the league for 20+ years and you can't figure out, concretely, what a penalty is and isn't.

Exactly.
Not only do the rulesw get bent in how they are enforced, but the rules change once the playoffs commence. Then you start having officiating that is derived from "not wanting to influence teh outcome of the game." Lax officiating can influence game results just as much as porrous and uneven penalty calling. The Brashear penalty should have just been flat out waved off when they didn't know who to blame. Any other league would have figured that much out but the officials thought "Well, something happened... might as well call someone..." It's a joke. How can you bring in new fans if the rule standards change so broadly from month to month in this league? What is called in October will not be called in May. What a playoff watcher sees in the Stanley Cup Finals is ever the same rule enforcement as in December during the season. |
