Is this an example of overpaying that Feaster was prepared to do for the right guy? Stewart seems undersized (5'11", 185lbs) for an agitator (and I don't mean in a Darcy Tucker undersized arrangement). He's also bounced around a good deal...
Was he worth Nikita? Obviously Nik's never lived up to expectations (besides the Dudley "Soft Euro" expectation) and promise that comes with his size and skills... |

Well, he was a healthy scratch the other night.
I think Alexeev's worth was established when he wanted to come back from Russia and while he was a RFA, there wasn't anyone craving a sparse goal scorer from the RSL. I think he signed for something that doesn't indicate he's a former top-10 pick. Sub 1 mil, I think, if it was close. From an article on OB, Feaster was after OB for a month but wouldn't give a first - so I don't think OB was the overypay guy. Stewart was on waivers earlier this year (twice), so I don't think it was him. Jay mentioned some deals didn't materialize, so my guess is it's something that didn't pan out.

Looking back at the 02 draft, "bust" seems to be the most popular term for around Alexeev's spot.
Yakubov, Vorobiev, Smirnov, Nederost... none panned out. Dudley liked big Russians, so you wonder why he didn't grab Frolov early (can you imagine?!) - but was infatuated with Alexeev's "dimensional speed." 2000 Draft (hockeydb.com)

Well, I recall Alexeev's selection being very high to begin with -- he was projected late in the 1st or the 2nd... But Dudley had him much higher.
Never the less, busted is as busted does. |

He is a hell'of a nice kid too. I was really pulling for him and when he got off to that good start, I was really happy for him but to be successful in this league, consistency is the key and somehow, he just could never find that.
