My question to you guys is whether you think Vincent Lecalvalier will resign with the Bolts or will go to another team. If you think he is going to another team tell me which one you think he will be going to.
PS. I'm not sure how many years are left on his contract but its been rumored he is a UFA at the end of this season. I think that he will sign elsewhere because i dont think that the Bolts can afford the Big three anymore. They need a well rounded club. Goaltending is of concern. I sure hope that he signs in montreal because montreal needs a scorer and he would make a good fit being French and Growing up cheering on the Habs.

He has another year left on his deal.
He just made a $3 million contribution to All Children's Hospital here which spans over 8 years. At the press conference for that donation, he made the statement "Tampa is my home now." When he signed his last contract he said he thought about signing a 1-year deal so he could test the UFA market but after thinking about it for one day, said he realized this is where he "wants to be." I think his preference will be to remain in Tampa. We are $6M under the cap, and Vinny is only about $1M shy of the max, anyway, so he wouldn't need much of that cap space. |

It's consistent wishful thinking (no offense, HabsFan) that Lecavalier
1) should be in Canada 2) Wants to be in Canada 3) should sign in Montreal 4) wants to sign in Montreal 5) has to sign in Montreal. It's the exact same story that we've heard since Vincent Lecavalier broke into the NHL. Trust me on this -- me and Boltsfan2029 have seen this over and over again... Tampa Bay should (trade, release, free) Vincent Lecavalier for every reason under the sun. And of course "Tampa can't afford all those players under the Cap! Vinny's coming back to Canada!" Lyle Richardson -- a Habs fan and the webmaster of the absolutely best hockey rumor site at Spector's Hockey - Trade rumors, commentary, playoff predictions, links, and much more! -- consistently puts down the Vinny (or Brad, or Marty)-to-be-traded rumors that come from RDS and the province of Quebec because they tend to be fan fiction and wishful thinking. Unless the Lightning fall flat on their faces and Lecavalier starts playing like a shell of himself (or the new ownership group starts interfering with the roster and makeup of the team), he will be retained by the Lightning as he is the face of the franchise and one of the core players. Though even Wayne Gretzky got traded, the window of opportunity isn't closing, nor would the team want to haste it by letting Vincent Lecavalier go elsewhere.

I have a questiong Habsfan84: Have you heard about Vinny L's very large (millions) donation to a local hospital through the Canadian Press? I'm curiously cranky (not at you at the Press) that the press seems to find the time to make up/report trade rumors about Vinny L without any help from the AP. However, when the guy makes an incredible donation for sick kids--IMO putting some real roots down, it seems, at least to my limited survey, that the press is silent.

You think Denis and Holmqvist are good goalies.
Romo may be good. He is not a big name when it comes to goalie prospects though.

No, I hadn't heard about the money donation.
Ya sure that money donation should be put in the press. You really have to wonder what is more exciting to the press, a nice money donation or a switch in teams for what i think is the best player in the NHL as of right now. I'm sure the press will take the trade rumor instead.

Let me stress something That's been said: Vincent Lecavalier has made a long term financial investment in the Tampa Bay area. This isn't just buying a house and the invvestment itself isn't just "donating money" -- the guy put forth millions of dollars for a pediatric care ward at a local hospital.
A player who cares about sick kids -- kids with cancer and blood disorders -- is a HELL of a bigger story than a hapless trade rumor that comes out of Quebec. Who will it be that's supposedly coming back to the Lightning this year when the Bolts make their trip to Canada? "A player to be named later because the Lightning know how much Vinny belongs in Quebec and they are willing to shoot themselves in the foot to make us happy"?
