Default Bucs draft day thread...

...just in case any Buc fans show up

Calvin Johnson seems like a given but I feel like if the Bucs take Johnson -- he will end up taking the same path as Michael Clayton and (seemingly) Carnell Williams: One year wonder and then a slow fade out with thanks to Jon Gruden's Attention Deficit Disorder/flavor-of-the-month habit.

I'd be happy to see the Bucs trade down and commit to rebuilding the team but at the same time -- I don't trust the judgement of Gruden and co. It's a catch 22 really.

The Bucs need offensive line help and to rebuild the defense more so than an offensive threat.

I'm a Bucs Fan :-)

Calvin Johnson coming to the Bucs is getting a smaller percentage of happening as we get closer to the draft. talk has that Detroit now wants him and if he falls to three Cleveland may draft him and trade Braylon Edwards for a few more draft picks...I really want Calvin Johnson, but if he's not there and Gaines Adams is, he could be a nice addition to our aging defensive line.

Adams and Thomas are picks in areas of need... Neither player is a bad pickup.

Gaines Adams was the selection. Wonder what the team is thinking for the 2nd...

Maybe CB.... That certainly is an area we can use some depth.

Adams is a nice selection for the Bucs, with Rice only having a year left, I expect him to be traded soon and Adams to take over. Adams could make a run for defensive rookie of the year in my opinion...

Arron Sears can either be a great pick or a lousy one depending how they use him, if they use him at tackle to back up injury-proned Luke Petitgout then it's a terrible pick and they should have done something else, but if they truly use him at guard it could be a second round steal...

Next two picks are (S) Sabby Piscitelli from Oregon State and (OLB) Quincy Black from New Mexico.

Not bad drafts though Piscitelli could have been grabbed in the fourth i believe. Gets beat on the long balls, but good on short passes, so not great, but ok. Black adds depth to the defense. Would of love to seen WR Jason Hill selected, but nice to see them going younger on the defensive side of the ball...

Every selection is depth and need based. Not sexy, but definitely doable. I'm happy with the picks.

Sabby's got Monte's fingerprints all over him. I was just reading his bio on NFL.com and the "unquesitoned leadership" and other such things made me sure this was both a ability and character pick.

I just hope for his sake that people don't start comparing him to John Lynch. Lynch needed years become an impact player on the Bucs defense... I don't want fans immediately expecting the guy to stand out.

I really want a WR with one of the last two picks. There are three guys I really like that could help out and be sleepers.

Rhema McKnight from Notre Dame (Good route runner, good hands, good Speed. Needs to work on reading defensive openings.)

Jemalle Cornelius from Florida (Great hands, but only average speed. Can't get too deep.)

Chansi Stuckey from Clemson (Great Hands and good speed. Only downsize is gain some weight before NFL Combine and didn't run too good.)

35.Tampa BayMarcus Hamilton (CB) Virginia36.Tampa BayKen Darby (RB) Alabama

those were the last two picks...

Hated the pick on Darby. It was a wasted pick we already got RB we need a young talented reciever. Darby isn't even a fast wide reciever at the combine his run was about 4. 75 second forty...just not acceptable...

My friend was musing about Moore from Miami... I didn't knwo if the guy ended up selected at all or not. Regardless, the draft picks are done and now the undrafted Free Agent signing binge begins.

Yea I believe you are talking about Ryan Moore..

Moore would have been a good option, but I believe teams were worried about his inconsistency. He has trouble catching deep balls, balls coming to him over his outside shoulder, and when a defensive player is rushing on him he sometimes gets nervous and drops it. He has a good time speed though, can read the coverage, and has great jumping ability. I would have probably taken him 6th or 7th round, but it seems none of the teams or most of the anaylst were interested in him...
