This was mentioned in the game thread for 8/29, but I thought it deserved its own thread.
Rolen's Status The talked about this throughout the game last night. It isn't clear the path they will take, but it doesn't look good. |

From the discussion last night, it looks like Rolen may be lost for the year. With Spiezo in rehab (possibly the rest of the season), it looks like its Brendan Ryan's job to lose. I would look for the Cards to bring up the kid they got on waivers recently to be brought up on Sept 1 (if not sooner). Also, in the mix may be Edgar Gonzalez. They may sacrifice D for his offense. And a long shot to come up may be down at Springfield in Rico Washington.
I would also look for WJ to scour the waiver wire for someone who can play 3B.

that's tough. But it looks like Tony and Scott are communicating well about it, and there's good understanding. Rolen hasn't been 100% for a whole season since 2004. I sure hope he can have a healthier and all around better year in 2008.
Why was Branyan waived? I recall him being a good hitter and at least a passable defender. And a big, strong, guy. Last edited by AutobodyCAD; August 30th, 2007 at 08:59 PM. |

I just read an article that mentioned Branyon as a possibility. I don't understand some of the terminology but he wasn't waived, he was designated for assignment. It went on to say that the Phillies have interest in bringing him back when the rosters expand.
