Another strange game. Izzy blows the save in the bottom of the 9th but Brendan Ryan hit his 1st major league HR to win it for the Cards in the 11th. Let it not go unnoticed that Wellemeyer provided a quality start. A lot more but it will be a while. I intend to have supper before midnight this time.

I'm very happy for Ryan. I met him last year when he was on the DL at Springfield. We talked for a while. A very nice kid who just wanted a chance to play. Tonight he got that chance. Not only did he get the game winnng HR, he made 2 spectacular plays and had 2 other hits. Tremendous game. Hats off to Brendan.
The Cards had 12 hits. Brendan led the way with 3 including that HR. Spiezio and Encarnacion each had 2 with a double. Albert had a double. Taguchi, Ludwig, Miles and Kennedy had the other hits. The streak is still alive. The Cards haven't lost a game that Wellemeyer has been in. He was really sharp tonight. He went 6 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 3 BBs and 5 Ks. He only threw 97 pitches. He usually does that in 3 innings. I'm pretty tired of hearing that Sosa and Perez have been as good or better than our starters. Our pitchers have given up 5 runs and 9 hits to one of the best offenses in baseball and our starters have only given 2 runs on 5 hits. Nothing against Sosa and Perez but I don't think that they have had to face the same challenge. Cate got his 1st hold. He pitched a perfect 7th with a K. How do you send this guy back down? They'll have to make some decisions around Sunday when Loop is ready to come off the DL. More on the injured players later. Springer was credited with his 5th hold eventhough he gave up a HR for the 2nd night in a row. He went 2/3 of an inning giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 2 Ks. Izzy blew it. He got his 2nd blown save. He went 1 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 2 BBs and 1 K. He had 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th with 2 strikes on Green. He ended up issuing a BB to Green and then, a game tying double to Valentin. Huckleberry is 6-3. He went 1 1/3 perfect innings. Flores got the last 2 outs for his 1st save. Percival was in the BP warming up. It's much better for him to ease his way in rather than getting thrown into the fire immediately. As everyone already knows, Percival was activated today and Cavazos was sent back to Memphis. Mulder was put on the 60 day DL to make room on the 40 man roster. Injury update. Yadi is ready to go. We may see him in this series. Eckstein should be ready Friday. Carp is headed for Jupiter to pitch in an intrasquad game. If he fells ok after that, they will decide on a rehab assignment in the minors. Basically, he's going to have to go through spring training again. Hopefully, he'll be major league ready soon after the All-Star break. Looper may pitch Sunday. Rolen is going to be checked out tomorrow. If he still has problems, he'll go for an MRI. Edmonds says that he won't be ready until after the All-Star break. That doesn't really bother me. Taguchi has filled in very well. That will do it for tonight. Tomorrow night, it's Reyes vs. Glavine. Does that sound like a slight mismatch? I wish that they had kept Huckleberry available to start. The Mets are high fastball hitters and Mr 0-9 Reyes is a high fastball pitcher. Not the best scenario. See ya tomorrow. Last edited by Ewttexas; June 26th, 2007 at 11:37 PM. Reason: spelling |

Edmonds out thru ASB... folks that warned us how 2 more years at 10mil per was too much might be right after all. Ah, well. SoTags has done all right, and it's been fun watching Ludwick, and sometimes Schumaker. |

Rolen isn't on the DL......yet. Technically he is day-to-day. He fouled a ball off the inside of the top of his foot. The first report was that he had a deep bruise. He is having difficulty bearing weight on the foot. The MRI statement has me a bit worried.
I would imagine they will release Stinnett immediately. Only because I don't know how else they can cover the roster. |

AS GC said, Stinnett was signed with the understanding that it was a short term deal. He was semi-retired before the deal was made. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cards offer a coaching deal to keep him in the fold in case of an emergency. He deserves it for the great job that he's done filling in. Ryan expects to be sent down Friday when Eck comes off the DL. He has made his statement.

Too bad if Ryan is sent down. He has played well in the field and his bat will come around. Yet, he does need to play every day. If there is a trade in the works....perhaps Kennedy will be involved. If not I do hope his bat comes around sooner than later....
