I'm going to take a shot at this;
The Cardinals have to make decisions this week on which players to offer arbitration. Of the following players who should/will get an offer of arbitration? Weaver Suppan Mulder Marquis Vizcaino Wilson (Club Option so I'm not positive how this one works. If we decline the option I think we can still offer arbitration) Belliard Bennett So the basic question; Who should we offer and who should we let walk? IMHO Weaver and Suppan are no-brainers. I can't see a down-side to offering them arbitration. Even if they accept we aren't in bad shape. Mulder, Wilson, and Belliard are tougher. I would lean toward not offering to Belliard or Wilson. I would rather see us lock up a 2B for a couple of years (Kennedy?). Wilson could be very expensive in arbitration, especailly for a platoon OF. Mulder is tougher. Unless we work out a deal before the deadline, I would lean toward offering. He is too valuable to let walk away. Marquis, I wouldn't even consider it. Good Riddance. Vizcaino, there has to be a better, young backup infielder in our organization. No Arb. Bennett, re-sign him or let him walk. I doubt we'd get a pick for Vizcaino or Bennett anyway. |
