michael also had shoulder surgery after the 2004 season and it looks like he was never the same. his strikeout rate went down quite a bit since then and he had a really rough year last year at palm beach after having a decent year there in 2005. there was an article on stlcardinals.com earlier this year about him being moved to the bullpen. he has had a lot of injury problems, and if i remember correctly i think he has some screws in his elbow from a broken arm or something like that in college. my guess would be that his arm just isn't the same anymore and they felt it was time to move on.

fewgood--
your recall of michael's injuries is better than mine
and explains a lot !

still, i wish the young man well; these things happen
every year. it's sad to see one's dreams get put on hold
or completely obliterated by injury.

That's why i respect those who still have the itch to play
in the majors and go through great pain and long hours of
rehabbing just for the chance....like Kyle McClellan who i hope
succeeds this year. And i wish the same for Michael;
if he still wants to pitch, i wish him a swift and complete recovery.

Default Matt Ginter

My son and I had the opportunity to catch the game Friday against the Mets. Matt looked good and is a keeper. With all the unknowns at starter for the Cards, he is a valuable find.

The article by Jeff Gordon, linked by Bleacher today, gave a lot of information about the pitchers. The chat with Steve Selby had more information.
Most years I think we have some who are sure to be with Memphis, and then fill-in with the best leftovers. This year, I think this with these pitchers the thought will be, which is the pick for the best with a lot of competition. It seems these pitchers have real stuff. I sure am feeling optimistic.
