michael also had shoulder surgery after the 2004 season and it looks like he was never the same. his strikeout rate went down quite a bit since then and he had a really rough year last year at palm beach after having a decent year there in 2005. there was an article on stlcardinals.com earlier this year about him being moved to the bullpen. he has had a lot of injury problems, and if i remember correctly i think he has some screws in his elbow from a broken arm or something like that in college. my guess would be that his arm just isn't the same anymore and they felt it was time to move on.

your recall of michael's injuries is better than mine and explains a lot ! still, i wish the young man well; these things happen every year. it's sad to see one's dreams get put on hold or completely obliterated by injury. That's why i respect those who still have the itch to play in the majors and go through great pain and long hours of rehabbing just for the chance....like Kyle McClellan who i hope succeeds this year. And i wish the same for Michael; if he still wants to pitch, i wish him a swift and complete recovery. |

The article by Jeff Gordon, linked by Bleacher today, gave a lot of information about the pitchers. The chat with Steve Selby had more information.
Most years I think we have some who are sure to be with Memphis, and then fill-in with the best leftovers. This year, I think this with these pitchers the thought will be, which is the pick for the best with a lot of competition. It seems these pitchers have real stuff. I sure am feeling optimistic. |
