Lee signs for 6 years and $100 million. That is nearly $17 million per year. To view his stats, click here. This is yet another case of a player getting overpaid. Just imagine if Albert were a free agent and wished to "cash in" somewhere. He'd be baseball's first $30 million per year man.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2674398 As much as I'd like Walt to make some big moves to counteract what the Cubs and Astros have done so far....I don't want to see him overpay someone which is what a lot of teams have already done in this years FA market apparently. At this point, I think we need to concentrate on getting a solid player for 2nd base and then do whatever it takes to shore up the pitching staff. |

Hi Kodiak. I have always liked WJ's approach. He waits for the smoke to clear and then gets the best bang for the Card's bucks. Ewt's wish list. Starting with position players, I'd like the Cards to retain Preston Wilson and sign Luis Gonzalez. Next, I would like to see a deal with Washinton for Vidro. Duncan would get time in the OF and 1st base. The way TLR uses players, he'll get plenty of ABs. The lineup would be Eck, Vidro, Albert, Edmonds, Rolen, Gonzo, Wilson, Yadi and pitcher. That lineup can put up as many runs as the Stros or Cubs. The bench would be Duncan, Spiezio, Miles, Catcher(?) and Schumaker or Taguchi. I'd like to see the Cards try Cody Haerther at 2nd base in Memphis. I"d love to see the Cards dump the salaries of Encarnacion and Looper via trade. I expect the Cards to resign Weaver and Mulder. That means that we'll have 2 opened spots since Mulder won't be ready at the start of the season. One suggestion is to pick between Narveson, TJ, Hancock or Sosa for one of them. Not sure that I like it. I'd rather get Eaton and trade for either Buehrle or Willis. I know that it's a long shot but I can dream. Buehrle is a FA after 2007 and Fla forever dumps the salaries of their stars so it's not impossible. They like young unproven pitching and we have lots to chose from. Enough for now. More when things start to happen. See ya later.

Hey ewt-
Vidro has been on my wishlist for quite some time now and I wouldn't mind him on the team. Though I think Adam Kennedy would be much easier to aquire as he is a free agent. I'm thinking we'll at least sign Weaver. It sounds like Soup is going to be relatively expensive and there are a lot of teams interested in him so he may be out of our grasp now. I'd love to have him back though. I'd like to bring back Mulder on some kind of "special" deal (ala Carpenter when we brought him in). We gave up a lot to get Mulder and it'd be nice if he can prove his worth for us once he's fully recovered. I've heard that a lot of teams would like to pick up Mulder. In terms of Cardinals moves, its been pretty quiet. Things will pick up when the winter meetings start. |
