Default Alan Benes Retires

I just ran across an article on Alan Benes, who retired after the 2006 season at Memphis. Very moving article. I'll always remember how much a competitor he was. Too bad injuries robbed him of a great career.

According to the article, LaRussa is trying to get him into the Cards front office - a potential "Asst to the GM" job. I hope he succeeds.

Thanks for the link, very good article. It is a shame that Alan had to run into injuries. He had so much talent and there's no telling what he could have become. He'll be missed as I've followed him all thoughout his career. I hope he stays with the organization for a long time.

On a related note (pardon the pun), Alan's retirement marks the end of the Benes brothers in professional baseball as he joins his brothers Andy and Adam in retirement.

I still think Andy hung up the cleets too soon. He was pushing 35 when he retired but after 2002 it was clear that he had the stuff to still be comptetitive. At least he went out on top.

Thanks for the article Bleacher....I always pulled for the Benes brothers and enjoyed watching them compete. They are fine people as well. I wish Alan the best in his new career with the Cardinals.

In the WHBQ interview with Walt Jocketty and David Kelly, Walt talked about Alan Benes. They got him to stay with the Cardinals.
They have him to go to Memphis and Springfield, sometimes others, to work with pitchers. He works some in the front office learning that part of the business. They all like Alan. He is very intelligent. Walt thinks he may even become a general manager.

Forgot to mention that Alan was with the Cardinals in Memphis on 3/30 at the exhibition. He threw batting practice and was as gracious as always with the fans!

Alan is a great person and is so nice to the fans..I've met Alan 4 times and each time he was so nice..I can't say enough good things about him.its ashame that he got hurt or else he would have been one of the best pitchers.I wish Alan nothing but the best and I can't wait to see him in memphis and springfiled this year..
