I didn't think to post this here. Stan The Man Musial was born Nov. 21,1920.
While I was young, I memorized his statistics before school every morning. He is always my favorite person in all sports. A real hero. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stan_Musial coop |

A Saint Louis legend.
I can remember as a little kid (5-6 y/o) trying to imitate his swing playing wiffle ball. My first sports hero. I can still remember the first game that my dad took me to at Sportsmen's Park on Grand and Dodier. Cubs vs Cards. The man hit one onto the roof in right field. What a thrill. |

Takes a Stan the Man thread to drag me out of "lurker" status.
A buddy and I were playing a round of golf at AAA in Forest Park about 12 years ago and wound up behind him and a couple of his buddies about the 7th hole on a slow day. He offered to let us play through but since I was only in my 20's and never got to see him play baseball I politely asked to keep playing behind him so I could watch him swing in person. It was only a golf club, but I couldn't pass up the chance. Great ballplayer, great man, great legacy. |
