Troy Cate has continued his great pitching of last summer in the Mexican winter league's. Troy pitched in relief at Palm Beach and Springfield last summer, but has been converted to a starter in Mexico. And he hasn't missed a beat

Good article, BleacherBum. Thanks.
Cate was originally a starter thru 2004. And he wasn't too bad. Once he was shifted to the bullpen in '05, his stats improved, especially Whip, K/9, Hr/9. Cards picked him up as a MiL FA in Dec. 2006. One thing that impressed me when I saw him last summer was that he wasn't timid coming inside to RH hitters. FWIW -- Scout.com doesn't list Cate in their top 40. I may be optimistic, but I put him at #15, as the top LH reliever prospect. Last edited by ArRedbird; 01-06-2007 at 03:59 PM. |

ArRedbird -
I have him as one of the true breakout players of 2007, and wouldn't be surprised to see him in St. Louis by the end of the summer - especially if we make a trade of two. His numbers in 2006 were the best of any of our minor league pitchers - eyepopping. |

Don't know what the organization has in
plan for Cate. My guess is that they're stretching him out in winter ball -- like they're stretching out a lot of relievers. That way he could start or relieve. We'll see in 5 weeks or so! |
