Juan Pierre got a 5 year $45 million dollar deal with LA.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2669903 While I respect his speed greatly....they are paying him way too much. But then again, this is the new era of financially boomed baseball. As a comparison, Eckstein had an OBP of .350 this past season, just one point shy of his career average OBP of .351. He has a career SLG of .359. Juane Pierre had an OBP of .330, 20 points below his career average of .350. He has a career SLG of .377. His only advantage over Eckstein is his speed which allows him to steal a lot more bases. Furthermore, his speed allows him to get more doubles and triples than Eck. Is his speed really worth Eckstein's salary of $3.3 million + another $6 million per year? |
