This has been an interesting and enjoyable season.
Almost all of it has been good. Successful above all expectations.

I guess we will have the Cincinnati telecast on my TV today. I'm seeing their pre game.
I will need to go out, but I will check out the game when I get back. I can hear some with Shannon-Rooney.

1. C Izturis, SS
2. F Lopez, 2B
3. A Pujols, 1B
4. R Ludwick, CF
5. T Glaus, 3B
6. J LaRue, C
7. B Barton, LF
* 8. B Thompson, P <? Where's Lohse?
9. B Ryan, RF

There seems to be word that Lohse is taking a physical. Speculation that there is a big effort to resign him!
You will be able to read about this. It is on several broadcasts.
The Tony LaRussa pre game radio show is about to start. I hope he tells something.

Per the PD....Lohse is scratched from his start today to undergo a physical....possibly a prelude to announcing his signing to remain a Cardinal?....I've read 3 yrs./28 million with an option for a 4th year....we'll have to wait and see what they say later today....

Bird Land » Blog Archive » Lohse scratched from start, talking contract

Hummel just said that they are expecting Tony, Dunc and the rest of the staff back next year.
They are looking for a closer and bullpen help.
Lopez will be at 2B if he signs.

[I hope Looper comes back.]

Fitting way to end the season. Cards win 11-4. They sweep Cinc and have their longest winning streak of the season at 6. Milw is about to take the WC and Houston won so we end up in 4th place.
Back with the recap in a few minutes.

....and Coop, I hope Looper is back as well....

This is Ewt's last game winning post of the year. Time to hibernate. Is it February yet? This will be a long winter's nap.
The Cards had 13 hits. Lopez led the way with 4 including 2 doubles. If he's not too expensive, he's worth a resign. Ludwick had 2 hits including his 37th HR. He ties Albert in that catagory but falls 1 point short of .300. Glaus had his 27th HR. He comes up short of 100 RBIs by 1. Ryan had 2 singles. Albert and Phelps each had a double. Izturis and Huckleberry each had a single.
Thiompson filled in admirably for Lohse. The word is that the Cards will announce a resigning of Lohse tomorrow. I like it. It gives a rotation of Wainwright, Lohse, Wellemeyer and Pineiro. Carp is still a question mark so I hope that the Cards add that LH starter I've been looking for. Willis might come cheap. I, also, hope that they go after Affeldt. Huckleberry went 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits with 1 BB and 1 K. He ended up 6-3. Jimenez pitched the 6th. H gave up 1 run on 1 hit with a BB. Franklin pitched a perfect 7th. Motte was a bit shaky. He pitched the 8th giving up 2 BB and Kd 1. Villone got the 1st 2 outs in the 9th with a K and Springer registered the last out of the year. ERAs. Franklin-3.55, Motte-0.82 and Springer 2.32.
The Cards finished 10 games over .500 which is amazing considering the obstacles they had to overcome. I hope that Albert gets the MVP but he might have some competition from CC. Of course I'm biased but I think that TLR was Manager Of The Year. Most knowledgeable prognosticators predict that it will be Sweet Lou but how much more could TLR have done with a 300M payroll?
That wraps up the year. It has been a good one for the Cards. Lots of what ifs but in all we can't complain. Let's hope that Mo keeps his promise and is really aggressive in the off season. Looking forward to 2009.
See ya later. MUCH LATER!!!

The guys did great!

Joy is doing good at the hospital in her little nice thyroid isolation suite.
She said they treat her like Queen For A Day. Breakfast in bed, etc.
They tell my little granny lady how young and pretty she looks.
She may not want to come home tomorrow afternoon.

STLtoday - Lopez, Thompson lead Cardinals in rout of Reds

Lohse contract press conference 4:30 tomorrow
Lohse scratched, 'close' to new contract | stlcardinals.com: News

Bleacher's 40 man roster thread with my dumb comments added.
Pitchers (24):

Boggs, Mitchell - I like this guy, too.
Carpenter, Chris - Praying that he is the real Carp next year. Our Ace.
Flores, Randy - Can he pitch after surgery?
Franklin, Ryan - I don't want to give him away. A good pitcher.
Garcia, Jaime (L) - surgery.
Hawksworth, Blake - Is his arm shot?
Isringhausen, Jason - DL* Low cost only. No guarantees.
? Jimenez, Kelvin - Tony likes him.
Johnson, Tyler - DL * We sure could use him!
* Kinney, Josh Could he be our closer?
4. Looper, Braden - He should not cost a fortune.
2. Lohse, Kyle
5. McClellan, Kyle
* Motte, Jason Could he be our closer?
Mulder, Mark - Just go away! I wanted him to do so good for so long.
Parisi, Mike - surgery.
*Perez, Chris - I hope that he gets it all together.
Piniero, Joel - I think he stays. Can he be consistantly good?
Springer, Russ - I hope that he comes back.
Thompson, Brad - I like him a lot, but if Tony won't use him, let him try somewhere else.
Villone, Ron - Just go away!
1. Wainwright, Adam
3. Wellemeyer, Todd
Worrell, Mark - Not ready.

Did you see Horton's plug for A.J. Burnett last night?
I wish that we had lefties!

Catchers (3):
Johnson, Mark
LaRue, Jason
* Molina, Yadier

Bryan Anderson may be traded.

Infielders (10):
* Barden, Brian - Tony won't give him a chance. We need a SS! Leadoff hitter.
3B. Glaus, Troy
Hoffpauir, Jarrett
Izturis, Cesar
Kennedy, Adam - I hope that he is brings some return value.
2B. Lopez, Felipe
* Miles, Aaron - My favorite player! Our real closer!
Phelps, Josh
1B. Pujols, Albert !
Ryan, Brendan

Outfielders (8):
Ankiel, Rick How much will Rick cost?
Barton, Brian - AAA at Memphis.
Duncan, Chris - * I think that he should be an AL DH. Not much value.
Encarnacion, Juan - * Gone.
* Ludwick, Ryan
Mather, Joe - Come back, Joey Bombs!
Schumaker, Skip I think a LOT of Skip. He didn't hit lefties. It hurts me to say, I hope that the gets a good trade return.
Stavinoha, Nick - AL DH ?

* Colby Rasmus should get a real shot in ST. Is he in the doghouse for a trade?

I appreciate y'all putting up with me this year.
I hoped that we could keep up the best Cardinals links on the internet.
Wishful thinking when STLToday is there. I hope I helped.
I make many mistakes. I always have a weird sense of humor (?).
I am often guilty of gross exaggeration.
I kept hoping that we would get a lot of posts.
I hope that I didn't run people off. I had good intentions.
I apologize to everybody that I offended for all my offenses.
Now that the season is over,
I will start a whole new set of horrendous blunders on my next post.

You did great, Coop, and I really appreciate all you've contributed to this forum. No complaints from me!

And... I hope, also, that your lady is feeling better soon.
