First, the good news. The Cards make it to the break even point with 5 left to play. The bad news is that the Mutts won and the Cards have been officially eliminated from the playoffs. When you realize that the Cards have been playing with Memphis on the field and some of their best players sidelined, it is amazing how well they've done. They stayed in the hunt for 157 games. Remember that the experts predicted 90 losses. It still hurts that this division was theirs for the taking if the front office had helped at the trade deadline. Add that to the injuries and we can look forward to 2009.
The Cards had 11 hits. Lopez had 3 with a double. Albert had 2 and his BA is .350. Izturis had 2 singles. Ludwick hit #35-a 3 run shot. Glaus, Stavinoha and Lohse each had a single. Lohse is 15-6. He went 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits with 1 BB and 3 Ks. Motte got his 2nd hold. He went 1 inning giving up 1 run on 1 hit with a K. It was the 1st run charged to him and it came thanks to Perez. Villone got the only batter he faced but Chris allowed a stolen base, threw a WP and the inherrited scored on a sac fly. Franklin got his 16th save. He went 1.1 perfect innings with a K. That's it for tonight. Tomorrow night, it's Wainwright vs. Scherzer. Scherzer grew up a die hard Cardinal fan. It would be nice to ensure ourselves of a winning season. See ya later. |
