What more to say after that? The absence of Albert is blatantly obvious after games such as last night. We lost off one of our best relievers, so there's no complaining there. Looper gave us another quality start, making it 3 in a row for Herman Munster. The offense is the only place you can look to; it was strange to see us get 11 hits and score 2 runs, only stranding 6 runners. The Cubs keep losing, making our losses sting a little less, but we still could've been 1.5 games out with 4 more lousy runs.
Surprise, surprise: Anthony Reyes won't be making his scheduled start and was put on the disabled list. Brad Thompson will be starting in his place tonight. Last time we saw Brad, he was using his fastball a lot more than previous years, up to 67.9%. He seemingly lost almost 2 mph off his pitches as well, which may have been a sign that he was hurt. No matter what, we'll need a good start from Brad to keep bridging the gap between now and then, when we'll have Wainwright and possibly Mulder to show for ourselves. Pitching matchup of the week? How about Mitchell Boggs vs. Daisuke Matsuzaka on Saturday? Welcome to the big leagues, kid. Now face an international phenomenon who is rumored to throw a mythical pitch capable of toppling civilizations and is having the best year of his major league career. Oh, almost forgot: he hasn't lost a game this year. Oh, and you'll be pitching at one of the most storied stadiums in all of baseball, against a team in the thick of the AL East race desperate to win. Oh, one more thing: you probably won't have any offense. Now go win one for the team! I'm still waiting for the Cardinals trade rumors to start surfacing. Tomorrow, I'll have an updated list of trade targets that the Cardinals could have in their sights this July. Two areas I'll be focusing on are second base and lefthanded bullpen relief, our two biggest need areas right now. Remember to check out FanHome to read further Cardinals discussion. If I wanted to know who Santo Sandoval is I could go to the Cardinals Bio Central and discover that he's a 6'1" outfielder batting .143 with our rookie Dominican Summer League team. Just one of the features they have over there. In other news, Live on the Levee will be moving temporarily off of the levee due to flooding. I guess that makes it Live on the... Live on the... whatever, that festival loses about 100 times of value by not being on the river. Hopefully it'll be back by the time O.A.R. comes to town next month! More... |
