Umm... Todd, that wasn't really what we were looking for. Let's try this again without the eight earned runs, shall we? Last night's bludgering had me craving some Jose Lima antics or Steve Kline spout-offs to make sure we didn't change the channel to watch Dancing with the Stars repeats. The Tony La Russa meltdown was mildly entertaining, although swatting at your sunglasses when it's already 10 o'clock at night and subsequently stomping on them just kind of makes it look like you're delusional more than anything. I imagine how intimidating it must be to be an umpire and watch a 60-year-old man finagle his Maui Jims and beat them to a pulp and accuse you of having bad judgment. Nevertheless, look for some "gentleman's" retaliation today from the Cards (late in the game, non-impact player, between the shoulder and the waist). Can't say it's not warranted.
The Hardball Times looks into the Barry Bonds vs. collusion debate, coming to the conclusion that it's not that bad for the owners to absorb collusion penalties just to keep Bonds out of the league: For what it’s worth—there really isn’t a lot of downside if MLB has decided to collude against Barry Bonds. Bud Selig spent over $20 million on The Mitchell Report to merely make a political statement, so it’s not a stretch to think that the impact of a collusion ruling wouldn’t faze him much were MLB caught red-handed.Ouch. Major burn for Barry. One final note, on this Father's Day weekend. Thanks to all the fathers out there and all the work you do. I know I am greatly appreciative of my dad and am looking forward to spending the day with him tomorrow. The news about Tim Russert's death is truly, truly tragic, and his relationship with his father, Big Russ, underscores just how important our relationships with our fathers really are. Say a prayer for Tim, the most trust-worthy journalist for politics and all-around great guy, and the people of Iowa, who are already in for a long Father's Day weekend and not in a good way. Have a great weekend, everybody. More... |
