Ludwick with #16 in the top of the 7th....extends the Cards lead to 7-0....Looper having a fine outing....and Duncan with a sparkling defensive play diving in the hole then to the pitcher covering 1st for the final out in the bottom of the 6th....

Talk about stepping up. Cards win 10-0 on a complete game 3 hitter by Loop. Ludwick hit in the # 3 spot about took up where Albert left off. Great game all around and the message has been sent. The Cards will not give up,
Back with the recap in a few minutes. |

I usually start with the offense and there was plenty of that but this game was all about Loop. Easily the best game he has pitched in a Cardinal uniform. We needed a star and we got one. A complete game 3 hit shutout with 4 Ks. He is 8-5. His ERA dropped by 52 points. It is now 4.39. He threw 98 pitches. Absolutely fantastic.
The Cards had 10 hits. Ludwick had a double and his 16th HR. A 3 run job. LaRue had 2 with his 1st HR. It scores 2 and the rest is history. Ank added his 10th HR and Loop had a double. Schu, Dunc, Izturis and Ryan each had singles. The Cards take another series and our high water mark is 13 over .500. Tomorrow night, it's the return of Pineiro vs. Arroyo. What a lift it would be if Joel gives us a quality start. A couple of other notes. Izzy was back to himself in a start at Springfield. He was on a pitch count and went 1 2/3 innings. After giving up a 1st pitch single in the 1st, he Kd 3 and got a FO and a pop up. Very encouraging. Be sure to check in with Coop for the minor league results. You're going to like what you read. Not trying to be smart or wish harm on another team's players but with all of the adversity the Cards have faced and are facing, it could start evening out. Alfonso Soriano was HBP on the left hand and he was taken to the hospital for x-rays. Lastly, Mulder is scheduled to start another rehab stint in Springfield on Saturday. Springfield is getting a bunch of our walking wounded at the same time. Izzy, Clement and now, Mukler. I have my fingers and everything else crossed. See ya later. I really thought that the injury to Soriano was minor since he left under his own steam but x-rays showed a fractured metacarpal. He may be out longer than Albert. I prefer an even playing field but not at the expense of this kind of injury. Best of luck to Alfonso on his recuperation.
