Default $18 Million in Escrow at Jupiter

Article in the TCPalm by Lisa Riddle, May 29th.

Quote:
JUPITER — A big chunk of St. Louis' team payroll ($100,624,450 in 2008) is currently on rehab assignment at the Cardinals spring training facility.
http://cardinals-have-18-million-on-...elf-in-escrow/

The article includes a report on Carpenter's rehab.

But the article doesn’t mention Mulder. Does anyone know where he’s rehabbing?

For the record, there's more than $18m rehabbing at Jupiter.
Matt Clement ($1.5m) and Josh Kinney ($.390m) are also there.

While this is bad, it pales in comparison to the Dodgers, and maybe some other clubs, too.

During yesterday's Dodgers game on Fox, they put it up on the screen:

Rafael Furcal
Jason Schmidt
Andruw Jones
and somebody else?

it was LOADS more than 18 mil in players that are currently providing zilch.

I think Mulder has been in St. Louis, not pitching. He got cortizone shots.
He has talked about retiring if they don't help his arm enough to pitch.

STLtoday - Insider: Team's investment in Mulder is not paying off

I think Mulder and Beene both knew that he had problems before the trade.

I've always suspected that too, Coop.

Part of the Strauss article:

Mulder says he views tapes of himself from his 21-win season in 2001 and doesn't recognize the motion. He describes his shoulder then as loose and "oiled," a good thing.

As he averaged more than 206 innings and almost 30 starts the next three seasons, Mulder's throwing motion became less fluid and more choppy.

"I don't know why. It just happened," he said.

Mulder, still two months shy of 31, does not recall experiencing shoulder pain earlier in his career, but there was a mysterious change in arm angle. As he racked up 88 wins from 2001 to 2005, no one cared to question why Mulder's throwing form was changing. He and the Los Angeles Angels' Bartolo Colon tied for the major leagues' most victories during the five years.

Mulder acknowledged before 2007 spring training that he wasn't right when the Cardinals traded for him. However, two surgeries and a 30-day rehab assignment were intended to change that.

Wow, way to screw up the pre-trade physical Cardinals organization. I try not to think about that trade and how much we gave up. But then again, hindsight is 20/20. Maybe we'll luck out and rip someone else off in a trade.

Kods - I think we have in the past - see the Kent Bottenfield for Jim Edmonds trade.
