The Cards have insured themselves of 2 series wins on this road trip west.
They only had 4 hits and all of the scoring was done in the 3rd inning. With 2 outs, Kennedy and Schu walked. Dunc had an RBI single, Albert an RBI double and Ankiel doubled the other 2 home. Kennedy had the last hit. Hopefully, they're saving their offense for this afternoon. The pitching was tremendous. Lohse is 4-2. He went 6 innings giving up 6 hits with 0 BBs and 5 Ks. Easily his best outing since the beginning of the season. He only threw 96 pitches. Flores pitched the 7th. He Kd Loney to start the inning and got Kemp to GO but he walked DeWitt. That brought a visit from Dunc. He got Hu to GO on the next pitch. McClellan took care of the 8th. He gave up 1 hit. Perez pitched the 9th. He gave up a hit but he Kd 3. He has yet to give up a run. If or when Izzy returns, it will be hard to send this kid back down. Glaus was removed from the game and taken to the hospital with stomach discomfort. He had trouble standing up straight. He said that it wasn't anything muscular. I'm guessing that he'll take the day off tomorrow and be good to go on Tuesday. Pineiro has some groin pain. He's been giving me neck pain. He will be skipped in his start on Tuesday and will return against the Pirates next weekend. Looper will make the start Tuesday against Houston to be followed by Wainwright and Lohse. Wellemeyer will start the series Vs. Pitts to be followed by Pineiro, Looper and Wainwright. Looper will still have an extra days rest for Tuesday's start. The rest of the pitchers are going on normal rest. In the standings, the Cards are tied with the Cubs for 1st place but they are 1 behind in the loss column which means that Chicago is ahead by percentage points. TLR was asked if we will see Mather in St.L anytime soon and the answer was no. There's no room for him. Good position to be in. This afternoon, it will be Wellemeyer vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw- a top prospect in the Dodger's organization. See ya later. Last edited by Ewttexas; May 25th, 2008 at 12:47 AM. |
