Selby said Chris Perez was not in the Memphis bullpen tonight.
Is he headed to St. Louis?

He thinks they are leaning towards having Chris Perez to pitch in St. Louis tomorrow.

Kyle Lohse is having some shoulder problems and may not make his scheduled start on Sunday. If he can't go, Mike Parisi would make the start.

Could be that the Cards have called Perez to St Louis to be on standby in case Lohse goes on the DL.

Cards would have to move somebody (ie Carpenter to the 60 day DL)(or release someone) to add Perez to the 40 man roster.

Bernie M reported in his blog that Izzy would get checked out by a Dr. tomorrow (Friday). Bernie also said that their are "murmurs" in the clubhouse that Izzy's hip is acting up - even though Izzy denies it. Sounds a lot like 2006 when he refused to divulge that his hip was shot.

It's time for Moe to step up and get us some pitching help.

We have the help in the minors....time to give them a chance....I'm as concerned about the LH relievers....overuse?....Flores should be fine....Johnson is out for the year and I have doubts about Villone over the long haul....this will need to be addressed at some point....

This is a point in the season where the glitter of a hot start has worn off and some tough decisions will be made....let's hope they are done properly so the Team can get back on track....and restore the morale we began the season with....

What is the contract status if they designate him for assignment. I know he will have to clear waivers, and I highly doubt a team would take a flyer on a broke down expensive closer, but how much would the Cardinals eat. Is his contract, ugh, guaranteed even if he got picked up off the waiver wire?

I guess if he did get picked off the waiver wire, the Cards could rescind the DFA. Wow what a situation. I am glad to hear TLR be fairly blunt about the situation, instead of hiding behind the 'veteran respect' sign. Izzy has cost us a lot of games this year when we can't afford to. We need every win we can get.

Is Chris Perez even ready?

Chris Perez
Chris Perez - MEM #

Selby said he hit 97 on the slow Autozone gun recently.
That could be about 100MPH on other guns.
The writeups say he has some 98's. I think they are on the road.
They say his control is improving. I have seen him staying around the plate.
He has done great in Memphis.

We won't know if he is ready for the majors' batters, until we see.
He has the stuff.
Todd Worrell did not have perfect control when he went up.
There can be a fear factor for the batters.

On the status of Izzy's contract - the Cards are responsible for it all, unless he is claimed off waivers. The claiming team is responsible for the minimum league amount (390K?? pro rated for the balance of the season) and the Cards would pick up the difference.

I doubt if anyone would touch him if he is designated for assignment. Especially the way he has been pitching, plus the unknown condition of his hip.

Two lefty's to keep an eye on at Memphis. One is Randy Flores' brother Ron. He's had ML experience with the A's. The other is Jaime Garcia. He was recently promoted from Springfield and has had 2 quality starts at Memphis so far. I would think Ron Flores would be the first choice if anyone is brougth up to fill the lefty role.
