I can go to one of the Springfield games this week in Little Rock.
And it's tonight. I'll give a quick eye-witness report after I get home. After an off-day, I'm hoping to see all of the regulars, as well as the new comers, I. Garcia and S. Hill. The scheduled starter tonight is Cory Rauschenberger. One thing about Rauschenberger, when I saw him (4/20) in Springfield, his fast ball was hitting 95, 96. He might be a [deep] sleeper -- not many pitchers get it up there in the mid-90's. He gives you a lot of innings and he's rarely had arm problems. Not bad for a 37th round draft choice. Check out Rauschenberger -- particularly his '08 stats since 1 bad outing early in April, and especially his '07 stats at Springfield -- in the Texas League, aka "The Hitter's League." I'm looking forward to the eyewitness report, as always.
Probables for Memphis at Tucson are: Mitchell Boggs vs Yusmeiro Petit. I think the Venezuela game was scheduled at 10:30 AM our time. They just got a 2007 game report there. Do we get this game report before 2009? |

Springfield loses to Arkansas 8-3.
Top 3 in the order (Robinson, Jay, and Craig) combine for 0-12. Newcomer Steve Hill goes 2-4, with a Run scored and an RBI. 2b Jose Martinez goes 3-4 with a double Mark Shorey went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Isaias Garcia collected his first hit at AA, hitting 9th as the DH. Rauschenberger threw 81 pitches and gave up 9 hits in a little more than 4 innings (faced 3 batters in the 5th before being relieved). The stadium radar gun did not work the first 6 innings, so I don't know how fast he was throwing. My amateur, eye-witness scouting report: Cory R shows a 3/4 delivery and a bit of a sling-shot arm action. He would benefit if he developed a more consistent release point, better utilized the lower half of his body, and threw more breaking pitches for strikes. Adam Daniels, still rusty from the DL, apparently, inherited 2 runners and both scored in his one inning of work. 2 very good set-up relievers bear watching at AA: Marco Gonzalez worked 2 hitless innings. Fernando Salas (my new favorite palindrome) struck out the side in the 8th, while featuring a 95 mph fastball. |
